Question Time

How much is an individual a product of his own devices and how much is he/she a product of society? If my understanding of sociology 1101 is right, more of the latter. But there is always that element which balances the issue by stating that at the end of the long and tiring day, its ultimately down to the individual.

Even though the individual does make the final call, is he good enough to make that decision in the first place? Has society given him the sufficient and relevant information to do that? How fit and capable is he to decide? How much is he in the know of the consequences of his decisions? In today's world, i think very little. The individual is over-rated and not sufficiently held accountable for his choices. One may argue that choice in itself is an illusion, but i say the consequences are definitely real.

You know what...i'm just trying to sound smart ..so i'll just say it. I don't like it when people don't think enough about the choices they make. Though i also acknowledge that choices will not always be right, it really pisses me off when they don't take responsibility for the consequences. Why is that? selfishness? fear? ignorance? indifference? hypocrisy? vanity? I have gone through scenarios alluding to each of these possiblities, and i am not amused.

There is a simple answer to all this actually, "don't bother". I got this from Kati and Lulu's former lecturer. Brilliant bugger.... Even though i always try to remember that, there will come a day i forget...
