Rock is...

In the midst of reading some very meaningful 19th century political philosophy - just wish the guy didn't write in such a 'cheem' manner - my mind wandered..(as usual). I somehow stumbled upon a totally mundane coincidence; that two of my favorite bands, Creed and Rage Against the Machine - which are now defunct - have been re-incarnated as Alterbridge and Audioslave respectively, and funnily (to me anyway), the only difference between both reincarnations for both bands was that they have a different lead singer.

Scott Stapp left Creed but Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips remained and with the arrival of Myles Kennedy, became Alterbridge.

Identically for Rage, Zack de la Rocha left, but Chris Cornell joined up with the surviving Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk to form Audioslave.

I know its an idiotic coincidence, but regardless, even though it was sad both original bands split up - especially Rage- the spirits of both bands still remain. Alterbridge still rocks with its secular brand of spiritual rock, and somewhere in Audioslave, there is still that political edge to their music. Protest rock i'd call it.

I guess thats why i love rock music, its eternal, so to speak. The name and a few faces may change, but the music lives on, even long after they're gone. And how true that is in Kurt Cobain's case:

"Punk(rock) is musical freedom. It's saying, doing and playing what you want. In Webster's terms, 'nirvana' means freedom from pain, suffering and the external world, and that's pretty close to my definition of Punk Rock."
